ABOUT ABOUT

1:00-3:30 WOOL WASHING & FIBER SAMPLES

In this hand-on class, students will be learning how to skirt and wash a raw sheep's fleece in pots over an open fire. Additionally, we will examine samples from a wide variety of natural fibers such as: flax, cotton, and ramie plant fibers, as well as various sheep breeds; llama, alpaca, angora goat, camel, bison, dog, angora rabbit, and others.

Students will go home with wool they have washed and a handout explaining the skirting and washing procedure. Students may wish to bring a pen or pencil for taking additional notes.

This is a hands-on, start-to-finish class that is not suitable for drop-in students, as it takes about three hours to complete. The class can accommodate up to 15 students and is appropriate for older children with an adult and adults, as it is conducted near an open fire.

The class is held outdoors and will be offered on Saturday. It may be rescheduled to Sunday, or cancelled if it is raining. Preregistration is encouraged. Refunds only given if cancelled due to rain.

Cost: $15 per student
Class limit: 15 people
